Case Study: Strides of Hope
Overview
The Center for Loss and Bereavement is a non-profit grief support center based in Skippack, Pennsylvania, the only organization of its kind in the greater Philadelphia region that offers professional counseling, peer support groups for all ages, and community grief programming under one roof. For over 26 years, the Center has served as a trusted resource for individuals and families navigating some of life's most difficult moments.
Each year, the Center hosts its Strides of Hope 5K, a community walk/run at Heebner Park in Worcester Township that raises funds for grief counseling, children's support groups (Nello's Corner), a bereavement summer camp for children (Camp Millie), and community outreach. The event draws hundreds of participants, volunteers, and sponsors and sits at the heart of the Center's community presence.
To promote the event, recruit volunteers and donors, drive registrations, and maintain year-round community awareness, the Center needed a library of real, authentic photography - images that could work across every channel where their audience lives.
The Goal
The goal of the shoot was to give the Center for Loss and Bereavement versatile images it could use across multiple marketing channels. From social media and event promotion to press coverage and registration pages. The purpose of the photos are to connect with the community, inspire participation, and communicate the mission behind the organization.
The Approach
Photography focused on capturing the human moments that define both the Strides of Hope event and the Center's broader mission: people showing up for each other, families walking together in memory of loved ones, volunteers giving their time, and a community united around hope and healing.
Images were created with versatility in mind, horizontal and vertical photos, wide environmental shots and close human moments.
Where the Images Were Put to Work
Facebook — Event Promotion & Volunteer Recruitment
The Center used photography on its Facebook page (facebook.com/thecenterforlossandbereavement) to promote Strides of Hope registration and call for event volunteers. Real photos of participants and community moments gave these posts the authenticity that drives engagement on social media.
RunSignup Registration Page
Photos from the shoot were used directly on the Strides of Hope RunSignup registration page, where the public lands to learn more about the event and to sign up. Seeing real images of the event helps convert a visitor who is on the fence, into a registered participant. For an event tied to grief and healing, that visual reassurance that this is a warm, welcoming space matters a lot.
Instagram — Advertising, Flyers & Graphics
The Center's Instagram (@centerforlossandbereavement) used photography for event’s advertisements, promotional flyers, and graphics. Having a consistent library of real images meant every piece of designed content could feel real and authentic, instead of relying on stock images.
Other Places They Could Use These Images
The Center also has the opportunity to share these images with news outlets to promote the event, email marketing to drive registration and printed flyers or handouts to spread awareness in the community. When you have high-quality, authentic images, the marketing possibilities are endless.
The Result
The Center for Loss and Bereavement came away with a library of images that could support the full arc of its event marketing, from early awareness and volunteer recruitment through registration conversion and post-event community storytelling. The same photography worked across Facebook, Instagram and their registration page without needing to be recreated for each channel.
For a nonprofit organization where budget is always a consideration, that kind of versatility is significant. A single investment in authentic photography creates assets that continue to work across every touchpoint throughout the event cycle and beyond.
Why It Matters
For a grief support organization, trust is everything. People who are considering reaching out for counseling, signing up for an event, or donating for the first time are making a deeply personal decision. Photography that shows the real community, real people, and real mission behind the Center, helps people feel safe before they ever walk through the door or cross a finish line.
When the images on your registration page, your Facebook posts, and your press coverage all feel authentic and consistent, it builds the kind of credibility that turns a stranger into a participant, and a participant into a long-term supporter.
If your nonprofit is planning an event, campaign, or community program and needs photography that can work across every channel, let's talk about how to build a visual library that does the heavy lifting for you.
