On the Job: Villanova University’s 2024 Women in Tech Conference

At the end of January, Villanova University hosted their 9th Annual Women in Tech Conference and asked me to document this impressive event. A chance to document women doing incredible work in the technology field (or any field for that matter)? YES PLEASE.

Villanova invited leading innovators in the technology field to their campus to discuss AI-powered applications, sport analytics, digital health, machine learning and other emerging tech ventures.

There was a long list of talented speakers, many of whom are Villanova alumni (a great way to encourage alumni engagement). Their keynote speaker, Rana el Kailouby inspired conference attendees – and me too.

Rana el Kaliouby is an Egyptian-American scientist, entrepreneur, investor, teacher and best-selling author. Her bestselling memoir, Girl Decoded: A Scientist’s Quest to Reclaim Our Humanity by Bringing Emotional Intelligence to Technology follows her journey, growing up in the Middle East and moving to the United States to become an entrepreneur. Rana has also been recognized on Entrepreneur’s 100 Women of Influence, Fortune’s 40 Under 40 list, Forbes' Top 50 Women in Tech, Newsweek's top Disruptors and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge and a Post Doctorate from MIT. When the heck does this woman sleep??

Since the conference hosted multiple speakers – in multiple locations – and boasted a jam packed agenda, it required more than just pointing and shooting. Before the event I created a strategic plan to ensure our team didn’t miss crucial moments during the event which also helped us capture the most impactful shots amidst the day’s busy schedule. By mapping out key sessions, speakers, and networking events in advance of our events, MKP’s team is able to anticipate where the action will be and position ourselves accordingly.

Don't overlook the power of visual storytelling – seize the opportunity to capitalize on your institution's events by capturing high-quality images. Professional photography not only ensures that each event is captured with precision but also makes marketing future events easier and boosts attendance. Have an event coming up? Let’s chat!
